Okay, here's the first of my MLP episode reviews and I will be reviewing the newest episodes as they air, and for the older episodes, I'll be waiting until Season 3 is over so I will be all caught up by the time Season 4 comes out!

Now let's see, 'Keep Calm, And Flutter On.' This is the episode that most of the Discord fans have been waiting for since we last saw him in 'The Return of Harmony' and after a 3 week long wait, we've been highly anticipating this episode since this is the only Fluttershy episode we will be getting this season.

When I first read the summary for this episode, I just knew that once this episode aired, then the FlutterCord shippers were going to have a field day, fan art and fan fics will be everywhere within a matter of minutes after this episode airs, that's just my prediction since that's how fast and somewhat scary the MLP fan base is.

And considering that this is the 10th episode in the 13-episode long season 3, I wasn't really expecting a whole lot from this episode, at the most I was hoping for a song from Fluttershy or even Discord. But sadly, I didn't get that, but I won't let that little disappointment get in the way of me giving this episode a fair review.

Fluttershy: Now I expected Fluttershy to want to make friends with Discord right away, I knew that considering her track record with animals and the like, that she would be the perfect choice for reforming Discord if the princess had to choose any pony to do the job. Twilight would've been a second option for me, but something tells me that her temper wouldn't have helped much for the story, and that she would've just taken the easy way out and used a reforming spell on Discord (Granted he didn't eat it first, lol!) As for Fluttershy's assertiveness, that just seemed slightly out of character for my tastes, but even so, I was proud of Fluttershy for keeping true to her word back in 'Sonic Rainboom' for being more assertive, and that does show that she has to take charge sometimes when the situation calls for it. I won't ignore that there were times when I thought that Fluttershy wasn't really acting like herself. But I do respect that even through everything that Discord had done, Fluttershy wasn't going to break her promise that she made, and in the end, really did make friends with Discord. So I have to give her a 7/10 for this episode.

Discord: Comparing to his first appearances, I have to say that Discord's appearance here is pretty spot on. Discord never really seemed to want to use his chaos for evil. And I had to give him props for reforming at the end of the episode, and realizing that Fluttershy is truly his friend. I thought that was just adorable and all of his antics during the episode were hilarious, from 'fixing' the lamp he broke, to the dancing candles and the gravy boat. I had no issues with Discord's appearance here, he was pretty spot-on and could find no flaws with his performance here. And considering that he's being used for good now, I'm wondering if that's a hint that we'll be seeing him again in some future episodes. For this episode, I give his performance a 10/10.

Now onto the plot of the episode.

Plot: The plot itself is wonderful, even though I felt that it could have been executed more properly in a two-part episode. I would've liked to see a couple more scenes with Fluttershy and Discord actually conversing and having some real talking time, like maybe Discord would tell Fluttershy why he used his powers the way he did. Because I always felt that Discord never really had any malicious intent like Queen Chrysalis or King Sombra did, I would've also liked to hear more on the reasoning behind Celestia tasking the girls with reforming Discord in the first place or even why she decided to release him from his stone prison in the first place! I can't help but think that Celestia must've had a good reason for that. But there wasn't much explanation on the matter. I felt that this kind of plot would've been better suited as a season finale episode, but I'm not saying that this episode was bad, on the contrary! This episode was really good! The voice acting was really good, the writing was well-done, but considering that the creators went this direction with the story, then I trust that they had a good reason for doing that. This episode went from hilarious, to heartfelt, to plain awesome, so I have to give this episode plot a 9/10.

All in all, this episode deserves an 8/10. It's a great episode and I am definitely going to watch it again when I have the chance, maybe work on some of Fluttershy's lines for voice acting practice. But I'm looking forward to seeing what the last 3 episodes of Season 3 are going to bring, because so far, this season has failed to disappoint me!

To start off, the plot is rather interesting. Princess Celestia tasks the mane 6 with reforming Discord so that he may be used as a force for good instead of evil, and considering how kind Fluttershy is, she gives Fluttershy the task of changing Discord into a good person.

Now right off the bat, I was already amused with how Discord was behaving when he was released from his stone prison, changing animals and causing mischief like he normally does and decides to take up refuge at Fluttershy's cottage while he's being reformed.

During the whole episode, I could pretty much feel the FlutterCord shipping being poured down my throat, but not really in a bad way, to tell the truth, my OTP for shipping Discord is Twilight x Discord with Celestia x Discord being a close second. I never was much of a fan of FlutterCord, but I never hated the pairing, I don't really bash pairings. But this episode turned me into a believer and now I'm a supporter of FlutterCord because of it!

Going back to the episode, I could tell that with Discord's return, that this was executed nicely, but it had so much potential and I feel that this kind of a storyline could have been used for a good 2-part season finale.

There was also a slight lack of character development during the episode, which I was slightly disappointed with since I was expecting quite a bit with this episode.

Another small issue I had with the episode was the fact that Fluttershy seemed to be a little out of character, she was much more assertive and temperamental then she normally is, she even went as far as to get in Discord's face and threaten him with 'The Stare' . That little character change just put me off a little bit since I'm used to Fluttershy being well- shy! I know that all shy people do have times when they forget their shyness and become assertive (I too, have had those moments) But to me, Fluttershy just wasn't acting like herself in this episode.

The pacing for this episode really off, nothing much happened during the first 2/3rds of the episode, but around the end, when Fluttershy decided that she's had enough, she starts to walk away from Discord for not properly fixing the mess caused by Discord to Sweet Apple Acres. And then Discord just suddenly changes to good when he realizes that if he doesn't change his ways, then he will lose the only friend he has ever had. To me, it felt like all of the character development happened in about ten seconds...

It was nice to see an old villain being brought back to the show after the last season, which really gives me hope that the other villains will make comebacks in later seasons, like Nightmare Moon, but King Sombra really needs another chance in the show since he didn't really have many appearances in his debut.

This storyline really did have a lot to offer, it could've easily been made into an epic two episode season finale. I can think of a LOT more plot material for this. Perhaps if a song number would've been thrown in, then I could've given it a better score. I did enjoy the episode but truthfully, I wouldn't count it as the best episode of the season.

On another note, I think that Celestia might not've been in the right state of mind to have the mane 6 release Discord in the first place. She was there when Discord first started messing things up in the return of harmony! Truthfully, the freaky shipper part of my brain is thinking that Celestia x Discord hints are afloat there.

And then with Discord's reformed in general, I would've enjoyed the episode even more if more of Discord's back story would've been explained. Like what his previous relationship with Celestia and Luna was, or what could've caused him to turn evil and want to cause chaos all over Equestria for.  But I guess with time-restrictions, the writers could only go so far and I hope to see what the season finale will be like!

Thanks for reading my review and thoughts on this episode, look forward to another one next week! ^^
I finally got the first review out! Sorry for taking so long, I wanted to add a little more, but my allergies are really giving me trouble today so I haven't been feeling well, but I hope you guys will enjoy this review and my thoughts :iconbaibaiplz:

I think that it is good Fluttershy was able to show assertiveness in this episode. She was most definitely herself - and she shows this by staying true to her element of kindness by treating Discord as a friend despite what her friends think. I think this episode really highlights her character strengths, which is awesome because many Fluttershy episodes focus on her weaknesses or about trying to get over her weaknesses. The episode displayed a great sense of continuity not only because of Discord's return, but because you can actually see the characters have developed and changed over the course of MLP: FiM. Remember "Putting Your Hoof Down", when Fluttershy learned that it is good once in a while to assert herself just enough to get a point across, but not to the extent of being mean or changing who she is? She applied that in this episode, and it ended up working for Discord.

I do believe that it felt a bit rushed for this plot, especially at the end, but I guess what could you do with only 20 minutes! A two-parter would have been nice. All in all, it was still a very heartfelt, great episode. :aww:

rewatching the episode, i completely agree with you! I was taking my impressions after I first saw the episode but you're right, Fluttershy's strengths were shown during this episode and that was just great ^^

yes, fluttershy did appear more assertive, but discord did mess with those animals at the beginning, so fluttershy being assertive may have had something to do with that (standing up for the animals kind of deal), and one cannot be too much of a pushover with discord (especially when trying to 'reform' him) (just my opinion on that bit) but interesting review none the less.

Well, I do know what you mean by that, but I never really saw any malicious intent coming from Discord like from the other villains in the series so he seemed to be the only one worth reforming. Or at least attempting to, and he doesn't seem to be a souless monster.
